Minnesota Zoo
The Minnesota Zoo chose DesignLeveL to produce a comprehensive feasibility study for the intended construction of a new animal hospital for their zoo campus.
DesignLeveL’s role began with a thorough physical condition assessment of the zoo’s existing animal hospital built in 1975, and a detailed review of completed questionnaires put to staff and other stakeholders involved with the project.
Three fully functional facility programs at three different budget levels were produced that considered clinical needs, educational needs, nutritional laboratory needs (commissary), animal holding needs, necropsy, quarantine, and administrative needs. Further development and refinement the aims of the stakeholders in combination with multiple other factors led to the decision to design a completely new animal hospital rather than renovate the existing facility.
Phasing Plans, site determination and development, the development of thorough equipment list, and cost estimating services rounded out the project allowing for a written report that addressed every need of the client.
Included with the study were multiple photo realistic renderings to aid the zoo in its fundraising efforts.
