Portsmouth Armory

The Portsmouth Armory Renovation was an upgrade to the current Men’s and Women’s Restrooms.  Serving Ohio’s National Guard as a regular training facility, it was paramount that the 1958 original restrooms be ungraded to meet current ADA guidelines and adhere to modern privacy standards, specifically with regard to the number of shower heads. The design intent provides a neutral color palette with highly durable materials to produce a long lasting, clean, modern look.

The current women’s secondary restroom, storage room and janitor’s closet were demolished in order to make way for a new women’s restroom which included ADA toilet stalls, showers, and a dressing area.  The current locker room, men’s restroom and women’s primary restroom were demolished to create spaces for a new janitor’s closet, men’s ADA toilet suite, showers, and associative dressing area.

The Portsmouth Armory renovation, our third awarded Ohio Adjutant Generals Department Project, was quite rewarding.  The available area earmarked for renovation presented us the opportunity to design. Even as the General Contractor performance was a challenge, we were able to pivot and give the client exactly what was being asked for.

We believe that although our budget and schedule management skills were well exercised, in the end we accomplished results that improve the overall training environment for our soldiers, and the work environment of the building's employees.
